Don't you hate disappointment? Like when your about to fly overseas and the day you go the airport its shut because it's snowing. Or when you're all ready to play Friday sport but it’s called off because of the rain. Fishing is full of disappointment. I reckon 90 percent of fishing results in no fish. Here are some reasons why.
when you're fishing, the goal is to catch enough fish for dinner. So you're at a river and your trying to cast to the perfect spot where that hungry rainbow trout is. So you grip your hands to the line and pull back and then swing, and watch your lure go flying across the sky, but you cast too far and your lure gets stuck in a tree. So you spend the next ten minutes trying to get it out of the tree but the line snaps and you have to put a new lure on.

Or when you are just about to go for a fish in the Marlborough sounds. You've been looking forward to heading out fishing for ages. You've gotten up early, spent ages getting all the gear ready and  you're finally set to cruise out to find some huge blue cod but…..your boat does not start. The engine is not working so you call your engineer and he says your going to have to buy a new engine and it takes a week to install a new engine.
or when your finally winding up the line and you think you have the biggest fish in the whole world so you keep winding and winding. Could it be a king fish or could it be a snapper or is it a blue cod? Nope, it turns out to be…... a big stick. Great, just what I wanted for dinner.
As you can see most  fishing trip results with no fish. Which is disappointing. But still, good things come to those who bait!

This term for a week we have been making 2 things that use elastic energy, the other thing we also used one thing that was a big wimp because it didn't use elastic energy.

The first thing I made was a flipping frog. It used cardboard, a rubber band and sellotape. It relied on the elastic energy to fling it up like a frog. The elastic energy came from  from the rubber band.

Second we had the projectile launcher. It would fire heavy balls. When it does that you could measure it would have the option of medium range or long range and short range.
The best angle was 30 on Medium range and the worst angle was 90.

Last but not least we had the rocket launchers it uses elastic bands, sticks and paper. This one used the elastic band to fling the rocket so it was also basically one of the top priorities.

Science journal

 Week one day one: On the first day of the term we made slime. It was green we made it runny so it would slowly go down Mr Anderson we made it by mixing corn flour and water together. Then we put dye in it so it would go green. The learning was learning how to make slime and seeing what the best texture was. I think I am multistructural because I did not know any forces, I knew how to observe, and I had a vague idea how to inference.

Week 2: In week 2 we were making balloon rockets. The activity was to see how far the balloon would travel on the straw. We used string so that the straw could go on to it and then you stick the balloon on it. The learning in this activity was learning about force. Force is wind resistant, friction, air pressure and much more. The air pressure was making our balloon, go really fast. I think I am multistructural because I now new how to infer, I could actively observe, and I could say something's on forces.

Week 3: In week three we did balloon rockets again. We did it with fishing line instead of string because the string was not smooth and the balloon and the straw could not travel far and on the fishing line it was a lot smoother. I was really  surprised trd he the balloon went a lot faster. The friction on the fishing line was a lot less than the string. I am multistructural because I could finally actively observe, easily infer, and knew what forces were were.

Week four: In week four we did the trebuchet. For the first test we put 4 weights in and it went 8 meters. The projectile was a tennis ball our second test was with 5 weights and the projectile was a tennis ball again and it went 11 point 18 meters. I wonder what would happen if we used a bouncy ball?  At the start of the season I
thought the heavier balls would go further than the light balls but my prediction was wrong. My gathering data was multistructural because I can rely on my observation but would other people see what I see. I can figure out what the observations mean but I am not confident about the logic of my inferences.

Week 8:Max and I are learning about projectiles this term, the trebuchet and onsager's similarities and differences.

Even though they both chuck things into the air, that doesn't mean they're the same thing.  One is bigger than the other so already they’re not the same. Another reason is the trebuchet uses weight to power it and the onager uses rope power to power it.

The trebuchet goes higher than the onager because the trebuchet has a higher arch. Quick fact the onager used to be used to smash castles to smithereens.

Inquiry reflection

In He Tangata this term we have been focusing on being a responsible citizen. Finn, Riley, Tom and I decided to do a project on time banking to help others learn new skills. I am currently working at multistructural because I can use several strategies to be a responsible citizen. These strategies are helping others learn new skills, such as musical instruments, sport skills, and chess, as well as teaching cooperative skills. I am proud of the presentation that we made because it was high quality. My next steps are to use several strategies to be a responsible citizen in our community and known when to use them and why. These strategies could be seeking critique, teaching more year levels, and teaching people outside of the school.

Where I am on the solo rubric (citizen)

 “I think I am relational because Finn and I saw a kid that was lonely so we went up to him and said do you want to go on our scooter and he said yes and every day from then we have let him go on our scooter that's being a responsible citizen because we were being nice. Me and my friends saw a kid that was upset and we said are you ok. My next step is to be extended abstract by picking up rubbish that I see lying on the ground and by helping people when they need help.

I am Warming up for the big game, It is a cold winter morning I am so excited to get on the field. My clean rugby uniform is getting dirty pretty fast. Finally, the time has come time to get out on the field. The whistle goes the other team just kicked the ball. I catch the ball, I sidestep the other team and sprint to the try line then I score.
